Daily Focus – “Why Worry?”
Why worry, just imagine it will all work out perfectly.
Worry is clearly a future tense idea. We don’t worry about how we are going to pay the rent last month, or if our teenage daughter will return home safely yesterday.
We worry about things in the future. We worry about whether we will get cancer, or if our boss will be on our case again today, or if our dog will wander into a busy street, or if a conversation with a family member will be stressful. There is clearly no way we can accurately predict the future with certainty, so clearly much of our worrying is actually unlikely to materialize. Many time things go smoother that we imagine.
Most of us know the vast majority of worrying is actually wasted negative energy. So let’s all simply stop doing it! Not so easy, you say? Well, here’s a fun exercise that can really help.
Pick out something you are worried about and write it down. Now write a short story about that issue with everything turning out exactly to your liking. Let me give an example. Let’s say you are worried about not being able to pay the rent next month. Write down “when the rent comes due, there will be enough money in my checkbook to pay it.” Or, “just enough money will easily appear exactly when I need it to pay the rent, just like last month, and the month before that.”
Simply tell a story to yourself that is soothing. You basically have to make up any story you tell about the future, so why not imagine something pleasing. Tell the story with the outcome exactly to your preference. It has been shown that those with the best attitudes get better outcomes. So if you can imagine it positively, it is more likely to wind up actually happening positively.
You might not want to choose the number one biggest thing you struggle with for this exercise. Perhaps start smaller with something that feels more easily within reach, and practice. As you get better and better, you will be able to successfully tackle the bigger issues in your life.
When you first do this, it might not feel very convincing, but keep doing it. Write the story at least once a day.
Practice, practice, practice. You will get good at bringing ease to the small worries in your life.
In time you will become a master at bringing hopefulness to any worry you have.
Enjoy,
Rick

An awesome one on one meeting, Feb 1, 2011
Being a very active business networker, I get to meet a lot of new people all the time. I always try to schedule a one on one meeting when I meet someone interesting that I think I may be able to refer in the future and whom I would like to add to my inner circle.
During a Funtastic Times networking function recently, I met a few great new business professionals with whom I felt I made a connection. Today, I had the distinct pleasure of having a one on one meeting with Brenda. In trying to be efficient with time and resources, I scheduled an 11:00, noon, and 1:30 meeting at the same Panera location. I love meeting there because of the great food and especially the free Wifi access. I stop in regularly and plug in to work in between meetings.
Brenda and I met at noon and started the normal chit chat. We both asked great questions which opened up the opportunity to share, without the conversation being all “me, me, me”. I felt it was great balance. We learned a lot about one another and what we were hoping to achieve in our businesses. At a few minutes before 1:30, I mentioned my next appointment should be arriving shortly, but we could keep chatting until she arrived. Good thing she didn’t show up, because the conversation continued.
Neither of us had an agenda to force our service on the other; we were simply getting to know one another to determine if we would be able to trust one another and feel good about referring people we know. During our time spent together we talked about our families, past business experience, ideal clients, books we would recommend, religion (coincidentally we are the same denomination and synod), Packers, 80’s music, and karaoke. It was awesome!
Now, I have to say that from my experience, it is much easier for women to connect and talk about all of these things when we are with another woman. Most men do not ask about families, children, nor would they likely mention spirituality.
I have had numerous meetings in the past that did not go this well. (Ask me about some of my run-ins with young freshly trained financial services guys) Sometimes you get an awkward feeling or the conversation does not flow naturally. Nobody likes to be sold, but people love to talk about themselves. If someone makes me feel uncomfortable during our meeting or tries to sell me something, you can bet there’s a snow ball’s chance in hell that I would send someone I know to be treated similarly.
Brenda and I met at noon and didn’t wrap up until about 2:40. Generally I get bored after talking to anyone for even half that long. Brenda was a pure delight. The main reason was that neither of us tried to sell each other anything. Our bond will be much better because of it. We asked each other questions based on a genuine interest…not because we had a rehearsed sales pitch. I would feel perfectly comfortable referring anybody I care about to Brenda for business cellular service. If you would like to reach out to her, just ask me for her number or you can email her; Brenda Cortez [brenda@consultingonwireless.com].
Happy networking,

Mental Fitness with Dr Rick Schaefer, Author of Extreme Thought Makeover
A Technique to Elevate Your Mood in a Moment Simply by Focusing Your Thoughts
Your mood correlates completely to your focus of thought in every moment. You know this because you can feel it change moment to moment as you go through the day. You win a contest, a date is canceled, your boss shows appreciation, your doctor tells you he found a lump, you leave work at the end of the day, your favorite sports team wins, your favorite player is traded away, etc. All of these examples are simply thoughts that are changing for you, and thus bouncing your feelings, emotions, and mood. I offer you here a simple exercise to elevate your emotional state in a moment. And it is so, so simple
The idea is to focus is on bringing up the feeling and energy of appreciation as strongly as possible. Simply put your attention upon all the things you really appreciate: your favorite daily moments, things, and people. Think about them, write them down, and appreciate all of the stuff that you appreciate…(Continue reading at https://proalliances.wordpress.com/)
For me, I love that first taste of my favorite iced coffee drink first thing in the morning. I love seeing the sun rising, blindingly bright as I drive downtown. I love the people I care about. I love that people love me. I love discovering something new that I am drawn to. I love slipping in under a puffy warm and cozy comforter on a cool evening. I love crawling into bed on nights I don’t have to set the alarm, because it really allows me to fall into the present moment, and melt into the bed. I love seeing deer walking through the yard. I love the luxury of taking a ten minute nap. I love my iPhone (oh my gosh, don’t get me started on that!) I love that I am a risk-taker. I love that I am always willing to say “YES!” I love the luxury of having an automobile, and being able to jump in and drive anywhere I want, any time I want, to be with any one I want. I love making a fresh salad from a grocer’s salad bar. Wait, I love the grocer for supplying it for me. Whoa, I love the farmer who grew the lettuce for me. I love the person who invented the hot shower. I love that there is truly an endless supply of things to appreciate in this world.
You get the idea… once you get going it is really hard to stop. This is called a Rampage of Appreciation. Practicing this way of thinking squeezes out any space in your thoughts to be annoyed or irritated with anything in your life. Go ahead, grab a pen and paper and start writing. Keep going and going, and see what you come up with. Most importantly, recognize the feeling that comes with it. The feeling of love and appreciation for your world will become overpowering.
Is the glass half empty or half full? The answer is what you want it to be. It is totally up to you, to your imagination, and to your thoughts. And thoughts become things. So choose wisely, and practice choosing appreciation!

Increase your Relationship Confidence!
Tuesday, Feb. 8th, 6-8 PM
The first relationship we have is with our self, and in order to have good relationships with others, we must first work on a good relationship with self. What does that mean? It means we need to have a sense of curiosity about who we are: what we like, don’t like and our boundaries so that our yes means yes and our no means no. By having this loving and self-honoring relationship with self, we are then able to enter into an honoring and loving relationship with another person.
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, isn’t it time to let go of the illusions of love and create an incredible love relationship with self and others?
You know this course if for you if:
1> You are in a relationship that is creating more drama in your life than you want
2> You want to make this your best relationship year ever
3> You want to truly fall in love with yourself
4> You want to improve your ability to attract the right relationship into your life
Don’t miss a chance to learn from 2 well-known Relationship Coaches:
First: Susan K. Wehrley…is a Nationally recognized trainer and coach who will give you a personality inventory so that you can better get to know your self; honor and accept yourself, and love yourself. In additions, you will get an assessment that will show you your relating style to others and how a simple shift can help you to feel more connected, empowered and loving in relationships. You will also get some practical tips on how to deal with the most common burdensome quirks of others and how to handle it in the most clear, calm and confident way.
Then…Sunni Boehme…is a master at relationship coaching and will share new ways to experience more harmony and understanding in relationships without any confrontation. She will give you tips from her 3 books and relationship workshops to help you find your center of confidence, stay in your center and use the “secret” to create and/or attract better relationships in all situations.
